What you can do on LOCA
- Give: pass on something you no longer need. Add a photo, post it, and a neighbor asks for it.
- Ask: looking for a ladder, a stroller or moving boxes? Post what you need and people nearby see it.
- Borrow: need something once? Borrow it from a neighbor and return it, instead of buying it new.
- Help: offer a hand or find one: carrying a sofa, fixing a fan, watering plants while you are away.
How LOCA works
- Create an account with Apple, Google or email, and share roughly where you live.
- See what people near you are giving away, asking for, lending and offering, nearest first.
- Post in under a minute: pick Give, Ask, Borrow or Help, add a photo and a few words.
- Ask for something with one tap. Once the neighbor accepts, a chat opens to agree when and where.
- Meet, hand it over, and rate each other. Ratings come from real handoffs only.
Private by design
- Your exact address is never shown. Other people see an approximate area and a distance, nothing more.
- You choose what your profile shows, and messages open only once a request is accepted.
- Report a post, a message or a person, block anyone, and remove your own content at any time.
Questions people ask
What is LOCA?
LOCA is a free neighborhood app for giving things away, asking for what you need, borrowing instead of buying, and offering help to people who live near you. Nothing on it is for sale.
Is LOCA free?
Yes. LOCA is free to download and use, there are no ads, and nothing on it has a price.
Where does LOCA work?
Anywhere, with a neighborhood that sets itself from your location. It was built in the Philippines, so places are named by barangay and city.
What can I give away or borrow on LOCA?
Furniture, tools, electronics, books, kitchen things, plants, baby gear, clothes, sports equipment and other everyday items, plus help such as repairs and moving.
Can other people see where I live?
No. LOCA shows an approximate area and a distance to one decimal, never your exact address or location. You choose what your profile shows.
How is LOCA different from a marketplace?
Nothing is sold. Everything is given, lent, shared or done as a favor between people who live close to each other, so there is less waste and you get to know your neighbors.
How do I contact someone about a post?
Tap Ask for it on the post. The neighbor sees your request in one place and accepts or declines; when they accept, a chat opens and you can message or call to agree a time and place.
Is LOCA safe?
Every account agrees to terms that forbid abuse. You can report a post, a message or a person, block anyone, and remove your own content; reports are acted on within 24 hours. Ratings come only from completed handoffs.
Is LOCA on iPhone?
Yes. LOCA is on the App Store for iPhone, and the same app works in a web browser.
